03 · Background
What is a community sauna?
A sauna open to the public, where people come together around the ritual of sauna and bathing — in shared sessions or private ones. Close to nature, and close to each other. The tradition is Scandinavian and very old, and it is coming back.
Bastu was built for Umeå Kallbadsförening, who needed something nobody sold: members and public in one calendar at different prices, with volunteer hours paying their way back. It did not exist on the market. So we built it — and it has run for real every week since.
